SmartSleep Clinical
SmartSleep Clinical is documenting smartphone and sleep habits amongst young women between 18-25 years of age and in order to investigate whether young adults who regularly use their smartphone during their typical sleep hours exhibit early signs of illness.
Smartsleep Clinical is based on comprehensive clinical examinations of 250 women aged 18-25 that were conducted at Hvidovre Hospital. From these health examinations, we have information on each woman's blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol and anti-inflammatory markers from blood samples, and fertility. This information was then linked with high-resolution sensor-driven tracking information on women's night-time smartphone use that was collected from the SmartSleep app. This app automatically tracks screen activations and accelerometer data around-the-clock. We also have information on the participants' lifestyle, health behaviour, and health collected via an online questionnaire and Danish population registers.
SmartSleep Clinical contributes important new insights into the possible health effects of using smartphone use at night amongst young adults, who are the first generation to use smartphones throughout their entire lives.
